Could I postpone the party, but still get married during coronavirus?

Absolutely you can! If your wedding date holds special significance for you or you just can’t imagine tying the knot on a postponed date, you can absolutely still get married on your planned day! You and your love can still exchange vows, rings and seal it with a kiss, even during the coronavirus outbreak. If you’re still wanting to celebrate with your best people, you deserve that! You can plan a large reception later in the year after the gathering restrictions have been lifted. Click here to read my tips for what to send to wedding vendors about postponing a reception.

What do car horns, Zoom meetings and you getting married have in common? I’m here to tell you! Replace the chapel pews for the parking lot, and let your guests honk their car horns in celebration from a safe social distance! Or, send a link to a video conferencing service for your guest to tune in to your wedding ceremony virtually during coronavirus. Never before have well-spaced parking lots and links to group meetings been more important! Keep reading for more details of creative ways to still get married during coronavirus.

Coronavirus can’t cancel a live stream! What you need to know to stream your wedding day

If you are still wanting your closest people to be a part of your wedding day, you could live stream your ceremony! Using a video conferencing service like Zoom is a great way for your best people to be a part of your day, just virtually! If you choose to live stream your ceremony, be sure to think through this logistics before your wedding:

  • Make sure you’ve set up your free Zoom account prior to the wedding day.

  • The free account on Zoom has a limit of 40 minute meetings, so make sure you’re streaming less than that limit so your ceremony isn’t cut off for your guests.

  • Test the signal at your ceremony spot. Some remote elopement locations may not be able to be streamed if there isn’t any service.

  • Make sure your guests know how to mute their microphones so you and other guests don’t hear unwanted background noise.

  • Have someone record the video conference! This will be a fun recording to look back on and see where everyone was during your wedding ceremony.

  • Ask your guests to still dress up like they were coming to your wedding! Let’s be real, we’re all looking for a reason to get out of our pajamas these days anyways (lol). So, if you’re wedding day was going to be black-tie, ask your guests to get glammed up with you as they watch from their home.

Social distancing because of coronavirus: how your wedding guests can be involved safely

Between the Pine acknowledges that shelter-in-place guidelines vary state to state. Please comply with all local and federal ordinances that have been put in place at this time.

Besides joining virtually in your wedding ceremony, there are some creative ways for your wedding guests to be a part of your day. If gatherings less than ten people are allowed where you live, you could still have your close family or friends present for your wedding ceremony. Another option that I alluded to earlier is to have your wedding guests wait in their cars in the parking lot, and as soon as you walk outside after your ceremony your guests can celebrate you with signs, honking horns and cheers. Another option is to set up a “parade” route of sorts. After you get married, you can drive around town by your friends’ and families’ homes and they could wave at you from inside or celebrate with you from their driveway.
