Olympic Peninsula Wedding at St. Paul’s Church

Megan and Eric’s Olympic Peninsula wedding at St. Paul’s Church began with an early morning ferry ride across the Puget Sound to head to the quaint town of Port Gamble. The day was foggy (classic Pacific Northwest weather setting the mood), and I was giddy with excitement (which is a big deal because I’m not a morning person) as my car winded along the roads. Megan and Eric’s day was filled with simple, yet dramatic, details that were thoughtfully chosen.

DIY wedding details on the Olympic Peninsula

I will never get over first looks! They are simply the best moments, and I feel so privileged every time I get to capture one. You could see the anticipation and excitement in Eric as he waited for Megan to make her way towards the Olympic Peninsula woods where he stood. As soon as his gaze saw his stunning bride, the tears were flowing (and I’m not just talking about myself behind the camera lens). You could see how much he loves Megan, and he just simply could not not cry! Rain began to fall and out came the clear umbrellas (and, boy, am I glad they did!). Who would have thought that a detail like a clear umbrella could add so much personality and depth to a photo? And, the drop-dead details did not end with their first look. The gals carried bouquets that were created with flowers from Pike’s Place Market while rocking leather jackets over their dresses. I mean, COME ON. Wedding details could not get more Pacific Northwest than that. Click the link below to see more stunning wedding details from a Texas wedding day completely inspired by the Pacific Northwest!

History of St. Paul’s Church in Port Gamble, WA

Their Olympic Peninsula wedding ceremony took place at St. Paul’s Church, built way back in 1879. The original wooden pews sat aligned in a quaint chapel with beautiful teal walls. I truly felt like I had traveled back in time to the days of Thomas Edison’s invention of the phonograph and Yellowstone being named as the first national park in the world. Now, before you ask, yes. Yes, I did do research to find out what was happening in our country during the 1870s. What do you do in your spare time?

Okay, back to Megan and Eric. Their wedding ceremony truly ended with a bang as they walked down the aisle, up the stairs to the balcony of St. Paul’s Church, and pulled the rope that rang the church bell for all of Port Gamble, WA to hear. To set the scene for you, Port Gamble is a picturesque National Historic Landmark town reporting almost 1,000 people during the last census. So, when the wedding bell rings at St. Paul’s Church, the whole town knows! How fun is that?!

Finding unique locations as an Olympic Peninsula wedding photographer

After their wedding ceremony, Megan and Eric escaped for some epic photos in the forests of the Olympic Peninsula. One of my favorite things to do for my couples as an Olympic Peninsula wedding photographer is to personally scout out locations based off of their personalities. For Megan and Eric, I knew I wanted to take them somewhere deep in the moody woods where ferns thrive. So, once I arrived on the Olympic Peninsula, I drove around the area searching for the perfect spot. Where we ended up was somewhere you could easily miss driving by, but it made for some epic portraits of the bride and groom nestled among the Olympic Peninsula pines. To see more amazing locations I’ve scouted for my couples, explore the links below:

List of the best Olympic National Park wedding locations

  1. Cape Flattery

  2. Ruby Beach

  3. Hurricane Ridge

  4. Lake Crescent

The Olympic Peninsula is home to some of the best Washington beaches and Olympic National Park, which features hot springs, rainforest, whitecap mountains and the rugged coast. On the Olympic Peninsula, you can explore the westernmost and northwesternmost points of the contiguous United States. Planning your wedding on the Olympic Peninsula will truly give you the best of so many landscapes and terrains. Like I mentioned earlier, this stretch of Washington land features hot springs, rainforests, whitecap mountaintops and a rugged coastline. You could begin your Olympic Peninsula wedding day on the coast and end it at sunset at a mountain overlook! There are so many possibilities for wedding locations in Olympic National Park, so I’ve narrowed down my favorites:
