Rattlesnake Lake and Franklin Falls Engagement Session

I grew up in the heart of the Midwest, so once July rolled around I knew summer was in full-swing when temperatures were averaging the mid-90s and I was always rocking that natural Glossier-looking glow of my own sweat. But, summers in the Pacific Northwest are just a completely different story! Sometimes July days can look like the most epic, sun-filled hike, and other July days are moody, foggy and rainy.

This day at Rattlesnake Lake and Franklin Falls was one of those days.

Eva and Biaggo were such troopers throughout our day braving the classic Pacific Northwest weather. From rain, wind, little pockets of sun and back to more wind, this day was the true epitome of every type of PNW weather. We started at Rattlesnake Lake and it was pouring down rain, so we went to the forest floor to avoid the rain by standing under nature’s umbrellas. Once the rain calmed down, we went down to the lake shore and the wind decided it was his turn to join the fun. But, these two were actual rockstars and didn’t let the wind phase them. What Mother Nature threw our way, these two caught and made their own. Eva’s mustard yellow dress perfectly moved with the wind, resulting in some stunning photos of the two of them.

Choosing the Right Outfit for Your Engagement Session

One of the things that made Eva and Biaggo’s Rattlesnake Lake and Franklin Falls engagement session so fun were the outfits they chose to wear! They chose warm, earth tones that complimented the landscape, rather than fought against it. Eva’s dress had great movement because it wasn’t a heavy fabric. And, both of their looks put their incredible tattoos on display; your outfits should always accent your personality! If you want to see another epic engagement picture outfit that ended up matching the sunset, check out this Mount Rainier engagement session.

After spending time at Rattlesnake Lake, the four of us (they brought their rescue pup with us!) got in the car and headed towards Franklin Falls. We went on the hike down to the falls, and I got to hear more about their story. Eva and Biaggo met through Instagram when Biaggo slid into those DM’s (lol). By the end of the shoot they were both soaking wet from the mist blowing from the waterfall! I was so blown away by their willingness to trust me as their photographer throughout the day. It’s always a real honor to get to capture couples who trust me as I guide them to different landmarks and through different movements. I never take that trust lightly as an adventure photographer.

Washington Lake Engagement Sessions

Whether it’s been Rattlesnake Lake, Gold Creek Pond, Diablo Lake or any and all alpine lakes, I just love the way water can really add a lot of drama and interest to a photo. Check out Juliana and Zach’s Gold Creek Pond engagement session to see the still pond slowly ripple around them. Look at the views behind Katie and Max of Diablo Lake during their engagement session. And, one of my personal favorites, was this waterfall tucked away in red dirt in Hawaii that my husband spotted while driving the island at sunset. Water can add some pretty epic detail to your photos. Who’s ready to go chasing waterfalls and alpine lakes with me? Let’s adventure!
