Elopement Gifts from Friends and Family
No matter how well you know someone, sometimes giving gifts is hard! Will they like it or even use it? Do they already have something similar? And, the big question…what do you give someone who never asks for anything?
We get it – shopping for elopement gifts can be hard, but if the special couple in your life happens to be adventurous, we’ve got you covered (and, if you truly are out of ideas, it never hurts to ask them directly. After all, that could mean the difference between getting something that gathers dust in a drawer…or something they’ll really use, like a honeymoon fund!).
America the Beautiful Pass
If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “I wish we didn’t have to pay every time we go to a National Park,” then this is the perfect elopement gift idea (and if you’ve never thought this, chances are the couple in your life has). The America the Beautiful Pass is basically an unlimited National Parks pass that gives you access to all U.S. National Parks and over 2,000 other federal lands (because who doesn’t want unlimited adventures for a whole year?!). The pass is good for 12 months of adventures and at only $80, it’s totally worth the investment!
“Just Eloped” Sign
Here’s an inexpensive but super fun elopement gift: hand-made signs that say ‘just eloped’. You can find tons of unique options on Etsy and they’ll make excellent photo props during an elopement (like right after the ceremony on a mountaintop).
*Insider Tip: This is one elopement wedding gift that you might want to consider gifting before the elopement day so the couple can incorporate it into their elopement day photos.
Airbnb Gift Card
It’s no secret we are big fans of Airbnb weddings and elopements. Airbnb cabins have so much more character than a hotel, and you usually get much more bang for your buck. Plus, an Airbnb gift card is something that your couple will be able to use any time of year and anywhere in the world. Consider gifting this elopement wedding gift prior to the elopement (4-6 months in advance) so the couple can use it for accommodations during their elopement, or send a gift card for them to book a super cute Airbnb for their honeymoon or next travel adventure. Either way, this is one of those elopement gift ideas that is sure to win the elopement game.
Honeymoon Fund
Elopement costs can add up, and receiving money as an elopement gift is usually appreciated as the couple can use it on whatever they want. But, if you want to do more than simply give cash in an envelope, consider putting the money towards an elopement activity or honeymoon fund. Some couples add a honeymoon fund to their registry, which allows family and friends to contribute to their dream experiences, but if they haven’t done so, you can always give money for them to put towards an activity you know they’ll love.
Illustration of an Elopement Photo
Here’s a unique idea for an elopement gift that you can gift the couple: an illustration of one of their engagement photos (or elopement photo if you’re gifting them post-wedding. If you do a quick search on Etsy you can find a lot of talented artists offering this service. One thing we really love about this idea is that you can have an illustration done in a variety of styles, so go ahead, get creative!
Framed Coordinates of Where They Elope
Another sweet elopement wedding gift idea is a framed print of the coordinates where they decide to elope. My Happy Place is one option, but you can also find some similar framed creations on Etsy.
Night Sky of the Date They Eloped
This is another angle you can take on the previous idea: a custom framed star map of the night sky on the date that they eloped (or the landscape from their elopement location). It’s fun because it’s a unique wedding gift and it’s sure to look great on their wall.
Decorations or Lighting for Their Elopement
When it comes to elopements (especially outdoor adventure elopements), a few decorations can go a long way. And the coolest thing about these types of elopement wedding gifts, is that the couple will be able to continuing using them after their elopement for years to come. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Rechargeable lanterns or solar-powered string lights are two solar-powered lighting options that will add some magic to the ambiance of an elopement, not to mention they’re great for camping trips or backyard bonfires.
- Wood or propane fire pits are a great way to take the chill out of a cold evening, and are perfect for an elopement s’more celebration or a chill summer evening at home.
- Solo Stove Bonfire – A traditional, round wood fire pit.
- Biolite Firepit – A little fancier, and you can even use it for cooking!
- Camp Chef Redwood Fire pit – Propane-powered means you can often still use it even if wood fires are banned (but, as always, check restrictions). This one also has pine tree cutouts which are super cute. (And yes, we might be biased when it comes to all things pine!)
Insider Tip: If you want to include any type of fire in your elopement day, make sure to check out our guide to Leave No Trace elopements to learn how to have a safe and responsible campfire!
A Cozy Blanket
Blankets come in a variety of styles, but one thing that remains true is that they instantly cozy up a space. In fact, we often bring blankets along for our elopements and our couples love them! They’re super versatile and can be used as a tablecloth and sitting area for a charcuterie board picnic, a wrap them around the shoulders when it gets cold, and a cozy piece of home decor to remind them of their special day. Here are a few blankets we love:
- Pendleton – Classic wool blankets made in Oregon with awesome patterns.
- Rumpl – A little more technical, down or synthetic, also with cool patterns.
- Voited – Quilted outdoor blankets that are perfect for humans and pups!
Elopement Gift Ideas for Your Partner
An elopement gift for your partner is not just a sweet way to say ‘I love you’, but it’s also an awesome opportunity to give them something they need. Here are some elopement gift ideas to gift your partner on your elopement day.
Any of the Gifts Above
Obviously any of the gifts listed in the friends and family section above would make great gifts for your partner!
Elopement Date or Location Coordinates on Jewelry
If your partner loves jewelry, a custom piece is a great way to memorialize your elopement location or date. You can find a variety of jewelry pieces and styles on Etsy, but there are also lots of options, like this custom map necklace so feel free to get creative. There are lots of options, so dig around a bit for something that fits your partner’s personality and vibe.
Hiking Boots
Hiking boots are a sweet gift because they will enable some amazing adventures the two of you can have long after your elopement day has passed! Plus, a good pair of sturdy and comfortable shoes is a must-have for your elopement day. Just keep in mind that all boot brands tend to fit a little bit differently – some are wide, some narrow, some are synthetic, and some are leather, so you may need to get creative to get the perfect fit and maintain the element of surprise. Some of the brands that we really like are Salomon, Asolo, and Danner.
Hiking Socks
A proper pair of hiking socks can make a world of difference in ensuring a comfortable hiking experience. We recommend wool or synthetic (not cotton) socks from brands like Darn Tough, Patagonia, or Injinji.
Headlamp
Flashlights are great but headlamps are often easier to use (especially for your hiking elopement)! If you’re planning a sunrise session, you’ll start hiking before first light, and if you’re looking for those epic golden hour, mountain top sunset shots, you will be hiking down after dark. So either way, we always recommend our couples bring a headlamp. They are also really useful when it’s dark and you need both of your hands: splitting wood for a campfire, cooking dinner, or setting up your tent. Black Diamond makes great headlamps, and you can even find some options with rechargeable batteries.
Backpack
Ok, we’re gonna get pretty specific on this one because we absolutely love Osprey backpacks! They are super comfortable, and can fit all of the things you’ll need for a backing trip, hiking adventure, and yes, your elopement day. Sizing for backpacks can be a little bit tricky, so you may need to know your partner’s torso length to fit them properly. Volume is the other part of buying a backpack that you’ll want to pay attention to. A pack in the 25 liter range is probably good for a day-hike, while a pack with 55+ liters is better suited to overnight trips or even multi-day backpacking. If you’re planning to bring a lot of items and layers along on your elopement day, you might want to look for something closer to 45-55 liters.
Rain Jacket
If you love spending time in the outdoors (and we’re guessing you do!), then a quality rain jacket is a great elopement gift idea for your partner. Plus, depending on where your adventure takes you, there’s always the chance of a quick storm passing through (this is quite common here in the PNW and in Kauai). There are TONS of good raincoat options out there but here are a few that we especially like.
- Patagonia Torrentshell – made with recycled nylon
- Marmot PreCip – this jacket is a classic
- Outdoor Research Helium – a super lightweight option
Reusable Water Bottle
A reusable water bottle is a great gift for your partner (and the planet!). You will definitely want to bring water on your elopement day, plus, water bottles are literally the perfect place to put stickers from all of your adventures! We love MiiR’s metal bottles and Nalgene’s indestructible, lightweight plastic bottles.
Flask or Whiskey Glasses
A flask or set of whiskey glasses is great at the end of a long day on the trail or in camp when you are sitting around the campfire. Snowpeak makes these awesome titanium flasks which are pretty snazzy and weigh next to nothing. But if you are looking for something that is functional at camp or back at home, these Huckberry glasses have little mountain peaks inside! Here’s one other company that has collections with mountains from Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Colorado, and more.
Customized Knife
A pocket knife is one of those elopement gift ideas that will last your partner a long time and come in handy almost anywhere. Benchmade and Leatherman both offer customization on their websites and both companies manufacture their products in the US and have excellent warranties so you really can’t go wrong.
Elopement Wedding Gifts FAQs
Do you give gifts for elopements?
Absolutely you can! Just because a couple chooses an epic mountaintop ceremony over a traditional wedding doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be celebrated. Elopement gifts are a sweet way to show you’re excited about their adventure and support their choice to do things their way. Plus, many eloping couples are just as stoked to receive thoughtful gifts as any other newlyweds!
What’s a good gift for those eloping with no registry?
If the couple doesn’t have a wedding registry, but you’d still like to gift them something special, focus on experiences over things! Think honeymoon funds, National Parks passes, Airbnb gift cards, or gear that’ll fuel their future adventures together. You can also go with something personal that commemorates their elopement location – like custom coordinates art or a star map from their wedding night. (Insider Tip: when in doubt, cash toward their honeymoon fund is always appreciated!)
What is the best gift to give a newly married couple?
The best gifts are ones that celebrate the couple’s unique love story and lifestyle. For adventure-loving couples, think practical gear they’ll actually use (like those cozy blankets or hiking boots), experience gifts that create memories, or personalized items that commemorate their special day. The key is choosing something that feels authentically them – not what you think they “should” have as newlyweds.
What are good last minute elopement gift ideas?
If you’re shopping for an elopement wedding gift last minute, don’t panic! Pick up a digital gift card from their favorite store (Airbnb, REI, or even a general Visa gift card are also great options) and have it delivered instantly. You can also order custom digital prints of their elopement coordinates or star maps that they can print themselves. And if none of those options feel right, honestly, a heartfelt card with cash toward their next adventure is always a win (sometimes simple is best)!
And there you have it – 18 epic elopement gift ideas that any adventure-loving couple would be stoked to receive! Whether you’re shopping for your person or the rad couple in your life, we hope this list sparked some inspiration for their best day ever.
