Rainy Engagement photos in the forest
Rainy day engagement photos are so dreamy and give you all the Pacific Northwest vibes. When Matt reached out to me about planning a surprise proposal for his partner Ty, I couldn’t be more excited to scheme up the ultimate plan for their big day! Keep reading to see how Matt proposed to Ty and of course these must-see rainy engagement photos to help you envision what a rainy engagement could look like!
Meet the Couple of this Surprise Rainy Day Engagement
Meet Matt & Ty, the couple of this surprise rainy day engagement. Matt and Ty were visiting family here in Washington and Matt knew he wanted to surprise Ty by popping the question at a mountain overlook! Fun fact: I actually photographed Matt’s Brother’s surprise proposal a few years back so that’s how Matt knew of me and decided to reach out to see if there was a chance we could do the same for his epic proposal! I talked with Matt to scheme up a plan to capture the moment at a mountain overlook, but when Matt and Ty’s big day rolled around there was rain in the forecast. We shifted from our original plan to the forest, which is perfect for rainy day engagement photos.
So the plan was, Drew and I would hike into the forest and run into Matt and Ty. Drew and I would ask them to take our photo on our iPhone and we would return the favor. But while Drew was taking their photo on the iPhone, I would pull out my camera, give Matt a nod to signal we were good to go and capture the big surprise! Our plan went off without a hitch! It was funny because we were the only people on the trail in an absolute downpour when Matt proposed to Ty. Ty was so surprised and it was a beautiful moment to be a part of. We spent the rest of the time adventuring and capturing their rainy engagement photos in the forest surrounded by pine tree umbrellas, along the dreamy river and this incredible suspension bridge. Matt and Ty are such kind souls and I am so thankful to have made two new friends!
Three Things to Keep in Mind When Planning Rainy Engagement Photos
Have a change of clothes
Okay, this one may be obvious, but having a change of clothes is essential during your rainy engagement photos. If it’s an absolute downpour you’ll want to make an outfit change into dry clothes for more variety in your photos. You’ll also want some dry clothes to wear for your drive back so you aren’t just sitting in your car soaking wet.
Bring clear umbrellas
Clear umbrellas are my go to with all my couples during rainy day engagement photos. They are super fun for photos and make great props, while also keeping you dry! It’s a win win if you ask me! Click here to buy your very own clear umbrellas!
Have backup locations
As I mentioned earlier, during Matt and Ty’s surprise proposal we had to deviate from the original plan due to rain. Matt wanted to have mountain overlook views for his big surprise, but with rain in the forecast we shifted to our back-up plan, the forest. By doing this we weren’t stuck in a cloud in the mountains and had pine trees to protect us from the rain. Matt and I had already ran through possible weather scenarios for their day and came up with multiple game plans based off of the weather. By already having that discussion we were able to easily pivot and it was no big deal.

Meet Your Rainy Day Engagement Photographer
I feel most at home outdoors, so it is no surprise that is where I gravitate towards as a rainy day engagement photographer. In college, I was known as the “granola girl” because my outfits were always fit to go to class or hiking (not that I ever skipped class to go to the mountains, lol). From my days of exploring the hills of the Ozark Mountains, I am now hiking mountain trails across the Pacific Northwest, exploring the bases of waterfalls in Kauai and experiencing as many mountain top views in Washington as possible. I am passionate about this job of mine and adventuring to the most beautiful locations to document rainy day elopement photos with the best couples. I’m a Pacific Northwest-based engagement and elopement photographer who knows the state of Washington, the national parks, forests, state parks, and other rainy day engagement photo locations well. Basically, I’m dying for a reason to head back to the mountains, and I’d love for your adventure to be the reason! Click here to learn more about me, your rainy day engagement photographer!
