Meet Kara & Nathan: The Couple of This Kauai Elopement

As an adventure elopement photographer, there is nothing quite like photographing your childhood best friend’s best day ever! I (Mollie) have known Kara ever since we were in Kindergarten and, at that time, I never would have dreamed that we would one day be celebrating her wedding day together! Fast forward 20-something years and Kara and Nathan decided to elope (just the two of them) in one of the most magical places in the world – Kauai!

Their elopement day started at their hotel on Kauai’s South Shore. From there, we packed up all our belongings and headed to the rainforest for their first look. On the trail, Kara and I had a full-circle moment as I helped her put on her veil (Kara had done the same thing for me at my wedding a few years earlier). Surrounded by lush greenery, moody skies, and the incredible sounds of birds in the rainforest, Kara and Nathan shared their first look and vows. It was so quiet and secluded, making for such a special moment (seriously – I was all tears!).

After exploring the rainforest, we made our way to Poipu, making a quick stop for burritos at Da Crack (because, duh!). We ended the day at the Mahalo Cliffs area with a beautiful sunset ceremony. As the sun dropped down over the horizon, Kara and Nathan said “I do” giving a perfect ending to a perfect Kauai elopement day.

Important Information You Should Know When Planning a Kauai Hawaii Elopement

Hawaii Has Many Microclimates

One common misconception about Hawaii is that it is warm and sunny all year-round. While it’s true that Hawaii is a year-round destination that experiences lots of sunshine and warm weather, it is also full of microclimates. What this means is that the weather in Hawaii can vary around the islands so be ready to embrace potential rain and sunshine during your Kauai elopement.

South Shore vs North Shore: Where to Elope in Kauai

Even within the island of Kauai, you can experience different types of weather depending on what part of the island you go to. Kauai’s South Shore tends to have more sunshine and is filled with picturesque rugged cliffs while the North Shore offers more lush, green tropical vibes. While this area is prone to more rainfall, it is more mountainous and has some of the most stunning views on the island!
