More about Between the Pine »

Since 2018, I’ve photographed over 150 adventure elopements and weddings, including countless in the gorgeous state of Washington. My work has been featured in The Knot, Green Wedding Shoes, and PNWonderland, and I also won Junebug’s 2019 Elopement of the Year.

Drew and I recently purchased a house in a little mountain town just outside of Seattle. We have called Washington home for the past seven years and spend most of our time outdoors. Some of our favorite activities include hiking, skiing, biking and sitting fireside with whiskey in hand.

I've hiked hundreds of miles through the North Cascades, Mount Rainier and the rugged coast of the Olympics. I may be a little biased, but Washington truly has it all - from the ocean, to the mountains, to the rainforests and the desert, making it the perfect location for your adventure elopement! With so many stunning backdrops and miles traversed, I have gathered a ton of knowledge on all the perfect spots to take my couples based on backdrop, time of year, hiking advility and more! If it is your first time visiting Washington or if you live here, too, I can’t wait to help you plan your dream adventure elopement in Seattle.

I’m Mollie: adventure wedding and seattle photographer, founder of Between the Pine, hiking fanatic, and snack queen (just ask any of my couples about my famous homemade chocolate-chip cookies).

Seattle, in a nutshell

Why you should get married in Seattle

  • Known for the tallest peak in all of Washington, located just outside of Seattle, Mount Rainier stands at 14,411 feet above sea level and is an active volcano. Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous United States. With five major rivers spawning from Mount Rainier herself, there are so many different micro-climates and ecosystems here. Spend the day hiking and exploring this national park lined with colorful wildflower meadows in the summer.
  • The Swiss Alps of North America are absolutely stunning and are the perfect place to adventure with your new partner! Less than three hours from Seattle, take a drive through the North Cascades or plan a hiking trip to one of its iconic destinations like Diablo Lake, Desolation Peak or Blue Lake!
  • Looking to explore the beach and the mountains all in one day, then Olympic National Park is the perfect place for you to explore with your partner! Personally, I love Olympic National Park because it is the least visited national park in the U.S. and is the most diverse in terrain, landscape and so.much.more! The rugged coast is an absolute dream and will take your breath away. Plus, you can explore a lush rainforest and mountain peaks all within the park. Talk about a win win!

And if you choose to stay in the area for your honeymoon, we’ve got recommendations on what to see and do, like:

  • Mountains that are also volcanoes: There are so many stunning mountain ranges in Washington state, from the North Cascades, to Mount Rainier and the Olympic Peninsula, there's no shortage of snow capped peaks and hiking trails to explore. One of the most iconic mountains in all of Washington, standing at 14,411 feet above sea level is Mount Rainier! Visitors flock far and wide to gaze at her in all her glory. Choosing a mountain backdrop for your elopement day would be an absolute dream!
  • Old growth forests (including a rainforest): Do giant ferns, tall pines and hanging moss sound like what you envision for your dream day? Or maybe it’s lush greenery, boardwalks through the forest and glacier blue rivers. If this sounds like you, then a forest elopement is exactly the backdrop you dream of for your adventure wedding!
  • Giant waterfalls: Picture this, starting your day hiking to one of the largest waterfalls in Washington, getting to the base and having the mist hit your face. You and your partner exchange personal vows, while I capture all the emotion and beauty of this incredible moment!
  • Crystal clear alpine lakes: Hike to one of these secluded alpine lakes, where you and your partner get to adventure together alone in the wilderness. Stand at the edge of the crystal clear water as your reflection paints the most stunning image of you and your partner.
  • There are so many locations to choose from in Washington state! My team and I know the best locations for couples looking for an ADA accessible overlook to couples looking for a multi-day hiking trip! Whatever you envision for your day, we have you covered! Head to my ADA Elopement Guide for all the details!
