Best Elopement Gifts for Adventurous Couples

Elopement gifts are a thoughtful way for partners, families, and friends to celebrate a new marriage. But sometimes it can be hard to figure out elopement gifts that make sense and that you will actually use. That’s why I made this elopement gift guide, full of things like outdoor gear, one-of-a-kind framed prints, and even handmade jewelry that commemorates your elopement! I’ve broken this list down into two sections: elopement gifts from friends and family, and elopement gifts for or from your partner. Whether you’re creating a registry for your adventure wedding or looking for that personal gift, I’m sure you’ll find that perfect something in this list of the best elopement gifts for couples.

Elopement gifts from friends and family

Getting elopement gifts from friends and family can be a blessing or a curse. I’m not saying that to freak you out but my point is this: sometimes you’ve got to nudge your friends and family in the right direction so that they pick out elopement gifts that you can be excited about. This can mean the difference between getting something that gathers dust in a drawer…or something you’ll really use, like a honeymoon fund! Keep reading for some of my favorite elopement gift ideas for friends and family to get the adventurous couple.

  • America the Beautiful Pass

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “I wish that we didn’t have to pay every time we go to a National Park,” then this is the perfect elopement gift for you. The America the Beautiful Pass is basically an unlimited National Parks pass that gives you access to National Parks and over 2000 other federal lands (like National Recreation Areas). The pass is good for 12 months of adventures and at only $80, it’s totally worth the investment!

  • “Just Eloped” sign

Here’s an inexpensive but super fun idea: hand-made signs that say ‘just eloped’. You can find tons of unique options on Etsy and they’ll make excellent photo props during your elopement (like right after the ceremony on a mountaintop) or even when you are off enjoying your honeymoon as a newly married couple.

  • Airbnb gift card

Drew and I LOVE staying at Airbnbs, and I love recommending them to my couples. They have so much more character than a hotel, and you usually get much more bang for your buck. An Airbnb gift card is something that you’ll definitely be able to use. You can go a couple of directions with this elopement gift idea: you could ask for an Airbnb gift card to use for accommodations during your elopement, or you could use a gift card to book a super cute and memorable Airbnb for your honeymoon. Either way, you’re going to be winning the elopement game.

  • Honeymoon fund

Have you been dreaming of going horseback riding or hiring a private chef to cook dinner after your elopement ceremony? Or maybe all you can think of is getting a doors-off helicopter tour on your Kauai honeymoon? (Trust me, it’s so worth it!) A honeymoon fund is your answer! Basically, you set up a fund and your friends and family can contribute to whatever experiences you and your person can dream up. Sounds pretty incredible, right!? There are a bunch of different platforms out there that you can use. I’ve heard good things about Honeyfund and Wanderable.

  • Illustration of an elopement photo

Here’s a unique idea for an elopement gift that your friends or family could get for you: an illustration of one of your amazing elopement photos. If you do a quick search on Etsy you’ll find a lot of talented artists offering this service. One thing I really love about this idea is that you can have an illustration done in a variety of styles, so go ahead, get creative! (And if you’re still looking for your elopement photographer to capture these photos.. I’d love to help capture your best day!)

  • Framed coordinates of where you elope

Another sweet elopement gift idea that you can hang on your wall is a framed print of the coordinates where you decide to have your elopement. My Happy Place is one option, but you can also find some similar framed creations on Etsy.

  • Night sky of the date you eloped – This is another angle you can take on the previous idea: a custom framed star map of the night sky on the date that you eloped. It’s fun because it’s unique and it’ll look great on your wall. This one seems pretty sweet to me!

  • Decorations or lighting for your elopement

When it comes to elopements, a few decorations can go a long way in making your photos that much more awesome. Just check out the recap from Megan & Joel’s elopement and scroll down to their campsite photos to see what I’m talking about. And the coolest thing about all of these gifts, is that you’ll definitely also be able to continuing using them after your elopement for years to come. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

    • Luci Lanterns or solar-powered string lights are two solar-powered lighting options that also add some magic to the ambiance of your elopement.

    • Wood or propane fire pits are a great way to take the chill out of a cold evening, and they make for great photos. Pro tip: If you want to include any type of fire in your elopement day, make sure to check out my guide to Leave No Trace elopements to learn how to have a safe and responsible campfire!

      • Solo Stove Bonfire – A traditional, round wood fire pit.

      • Biolite Firepit – A little fancier, and you can even use it for cooking!

      • Camp Chef Redwood Fire pit – Propane-powered means you can often still use it even if wood fires are banned (but, as always, check restrictions). This one also has pine tree cutouts which are super cute. (And yes, I might be biased when it comes to all things pine!)

  • A cozy blanket

I love to bring blankets on my shoots! You can use them as a tablecloth and sitting area for your charcuterie board picnic or even wrap them around your shoulders when you’re cold. And they can al
so add so much personality to your elopement photos. Here are a few that I love:

    • Pendleton – Classic wool blankets made in Oregon with awesome patterns.

    • Rumpl – A little more technical, down or synthetic, also with cool patterns.

    • Voited – Quilted outdoor blankets for your or your pup! (Because who doesn’t love pups?!)

Elopement gifts for your partner

An elopement gift for your partner is a sweet way to say ‘I love you’, but it’s also an awesome opportunity to give them something they need. Here are some ideas for things you could gift your partner for your elopement day.

  • Any of the gifts above

Obviously any of the gifts listed in the friends and family section above would make great gifts for your partner!

  • Elopement date or location coordinates on jewelry

Memorialize your elopement location or date with custom jewelry from an artist on Etsy. Here’s a bracelet, and here’s a super cute map-inspired necklace. There are lots of options, so dig around a bit for something that fits your personality and vibe.

  • Hiking boots

Hiking boots are a sweet gift because they will enable some amazing adventures! Plus, a good pair of sturdy and comfortable shoes is a must-have for your elopement day. It helps to know a little bit about your partners feet as all boot brands tend to fit just a little bit differently – some are wide, some narrow, some are synthetic, and some are leather. Some of the brands that I really like are Salomon, Asolo, and Danner.

  • Hiking socks

Pairs well with boots! But seriously, a proper pair of hiking socks can make a world of difference for your little piggies. I’d recommend wool or synthetic (not cotton), from Darn Tough, Patagonia, or Injinji.

  • Headlamp

Flashlights are great but head lamps are better! You will definitely want to carry a headlamp with you on your elopement day. If you’re planning a sunrise session, you’ll start hiking before first light, and if you’re looking for those epic golden hour, mountain top sunset shots, you will be hiking down after dark. So either way, I always recommend my couples bring a headlamp. They are also really useful when it’s dark and you need both of your hands: splitting wood for a campfire, cooking dinner, or setting up your tent. Black Diamond makes great head lamps, and some even come with rechargeable batteries.

  • Backpack

Ok, I’m gonna get pretty specific on this one because I absolutely love Osprey backpacks! They are super comfortable, and can fit all of the things you’ll need for your elopement day (and most of them have awesome pockets for snacks). Sizing for backpacks can be a little bit tricky. You may need to know your partner’s torso length to fit them properly. Volume is the other part of buying a backpack that you’ll want to pay attention to. A pack in the 25 liter range is probably good for a day-hike, while a pack with 55+ liters is better suited to overnight trips or even multi-day backpacking. If you’re planning to bring a lot of items and layers along on your elopement day, you might want to look for something closer to 45-55 liters.

  • Rain jacket
If you love spending time in the outdoors (and I’m guessing you do!), then a rain jacket is a great gift idea for your partner. Plus, depending on where you’re getting eloped, there’s always the chance of a quick storm passing through (so you definitely want to bring one along on your day). There are TONS of good options out there but here are a few that I like. The Patagonia Torrentshell is made with recycled nylon, the Marmot Precip jacket is a classic, and the Outdoor Research Helium II is super lightweight.

  • Reusable water bottle – A reusable water bottle is a great gift for your partner (and the planet!). You will definitely want to bring water on your elopement day, and you’ll of course be able to keep these for forever after (just like your love! Lol see what I did there?!). Plus, water bottles are literally the perfect place to put stickers from all of your adventures! I love MiiR’s metal bottles, and Nalgene’s indestructible, lightweight plastic bottles.

  • Flask or whiskey glasses – A flask or set of whiskey glasses is great at the end of a long day on the trail or in camp when you are sitting around the campfire. Snowpeak makes these awesome titanium flasks which are pretty snazzy and weigh next to nothing. But if you are looking for something that is functional at camp or back at home, these Huckberry glasses have little mountain peaks inside! Here’s one other company that has collections with mountains from Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Colorado, and more.

  • Customized knife – Here’s a gift idea that will last your partner a long time and come in handy almost anywhere. A custom knife. Benchmade and Leatherman both offer customization on their websites. Both companies manufacture their products in the US and have excellent warranties.
